A Historic Milestone for SMILE Children’s Charity

March 2026 marks a truly significant milestone in the journey of SMILE Children’s Charity.

We are proud to announce that South Lanarkshire Council has formally approved the Community Asset Transfer of Canderavon to SMILE Children’s Charity.

This decision represents far more than a transfer of property - it is the foundation of a transformational new chapter for families across Lanarkshire.

Our Vision for Canderavon

Canderavon will be developed into a dedicated, inclusive space designed to support children and families who need it most. Our plans include:

  • A respite house for children with disabilities and serious illness

  • A sensory play and wellbeing centre

  • A welcoming community hub for families and carers

For many of the families we support, daily life can be physically and emotionally demanding. This development will provide vital support, safe spaces, and opportunities for rest, connection, and care.

A Mission Rooted in Lived Experience

SMILE Children’s Charity was founded in memory of our son, Justin. Our work is driven by a commitment to create meaningful, positive change from personal loss.

With our daughter Charlotte living with complex needs, we understand first-hand the challenges families face and the importance of accessible, compassionate support. This project reflects both our experience and our determination to make a difference for others.

Looking Ahead

While this milestone is a major achievement, it is only the beginning.

We are now entering the next phase of the journey - bringing Canderavon to life. This will involve collaboration with partners, funders, and the wider community to turn this vision into a fully adapted facility that serves families across the region.

Stay tuned for what’s to come as we continue to build something truly special together.
